Nunavut and Kivalliq Trade Shows

Mr. Speaker,

Today I want to acknowledge the organizers of the Nunavut Trade Show and Conference and the Kivalliq Trade Show.

Mr. Speaker, I had the opportunity to witness the results of the hard work and dedication by the Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Kivalliq Trade Show Society. The business communities in our regions are strong. They are made of connected leaders – some with many years of experience and some being mentored to take the lead.

In Iqaluit, the Nunavut Trade Show and Conference celebrated its 30th anniversary. The gathering brought together Nunavut businesses, investors, entrepreneurs, southern businesses, representative from our government, as well as from Inuit organizations. The theme of resilience was at the forefront.

In Rankin Inlet, The Kivalliq Trade Show bounced back from the pandemic years with greater numbers. We celebrated women in business. Women attended in force as delegates, as artists, as performers and as speakers. In fact, the organizing committee is made up largely of women.

I accepted to speak at these two events. Mr. Speaker, it was truly an honour. I stated that the Nunavut economy had proven resilient when faced with the pandemic. I shared information about investments this government is making to diversify our local economies. Finally, I told those in attendance of the strides we are making with Nunavut 3000. The economy and housing are two of the five pillars in this government’s Katujjiluta mandate.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
