Iqaluit, Nunavut (June 17, 2024) – The Nunavut Partnership Committee (NPC) – which consists of the Executive Council of the Government of Nunavut (GN) and the Board of Directors of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) – met June 17 to advance shared priorities.
At the meeting, the committee endorsed workplans for the shared priority areas of Child Welfare, Elders, Housing, Community Economic Development, and Training.
The committee works to fulfil the Partnership Declaration, approved in March 2022, which recognizes that the GN and NTI share common priorities of interest, and that collaborative working relations will benefit all Nunavummiut.
“The Partnership Declaration allows us to collaboratively identify priorities and commit to taking collective action on joint priorities, in order to improve the lives of Nunavummiut,” said Premier P.J. Akeeagok.
“With the population of Nunavut being 85 percent Inuit, it is imperative that NTI and the GN work together to improve the lives of Nunavut Inuit. I remain optimistic that working together on these workplans will contribute to bettering the lives of Nunavut Inuit. Inuit leadership remain committed to working with the GN to that end,” said NTI President Aluki Kotierk.
Senior officials from each organization are tasked to meet monthly to advance work in the five priority areas, and to report progress at the next NPC meeting.
