Iqaluit, Nunavut (May 29, 2024) – Premier P.J. Akeeagok today announced the appointment of Daniel Young as Deputy Minister for the Department of Finance, effective May 27, 2024.
Mr. Young has been serving in the role in an interim capacity during the public competition to replace long-time public servant Jeff Chown, who retired in January.
“I am pleased that Mr. Young has accepted this critical position with the Government of Nunavut,” said Premier Akeeagok.
“We value and respect Mr. Young’s leadership and are fortunate that he continues to apply his skills and knowledge to our government operations. The meticulous management of our finances is critical to ensuring our programs and services are delivered.”
Mr. Young was raised in Nunavut and has spent the past 16 years with the Government of Nunavut, in roles that include Superintendent of Insurance, Director of Fiscal Policy, Director of the Nunavut Liquor and Cannabis Commission, as well as Assistant Deputy Minister leading the Fiscal Management Branch.
“Mr. Young is a significant member of our team, working to ensure the fulfillment of our Katujjiluta mandate,” said Premier Akeeagok.
